New York City Day 1 (Part 2)

Now onto New York City Day 1 – Part 2. Read about Day 1 – Part 1 here.

After returning to our hotel for a little rest, we decided to walk around the Hudson Yards area a bit. I had been told by many people to check out The High Line, and it was a short walk from our hotel. The highline has a number of art pieces, including a very cool French horn sculpture. We walked out towards the river from Hudson yards along the old train track. What New York City has done with this area is very cool and innovative. It was stinking hot, but we still enjoyed ourselves and had fun seeing the sites.

We returned to our room and got ready for dinner and the show. We had made reservations for dinner at Tavola Hells Kitchen, a small Italian restaurant close to the hotel that had a two course Prix Menu for lunch that went till 5 PM. It looks like it only goes to 4pm now. It was a great meal, and a way to save little money for dinner.

We then walked to the show which was mistake number one. Next time I will start using the subway immediately and not walk so much.

We arrived in town Time Square early and had some time to waste so I looked around and ended up at the Sugar Factory for dessert.

Seeing a Show on Broadway

Next, it was off to the Hudson Theater to see Merrily We Roll Along, with Daniel Radcliffe. We bought tickets months before the trip, wanting to see something in New York that was specific to New York, and not a show that we could possibly see later in San Francisco. Then, suddenly, we are seeing a Tony winning show! Our seats were great, and it was a smaller, intimate theater. We went out back after the show, hoping to see someone, but Netflix was filming the show the days we were there, so they were not going out back. We were bummed. But, walked our way back to our hotel (HUGE mistake, again!).

First night in the big city was in the books and we were exhausted.
